In this introduction we intend to shed some light on the phenomenal infrastructural challenges that will be essential to shift towards a
carbon neutral economy. More specifically we will zoom in on the requirements for renewable energy and the electrification of
transport, at a time when 140 million people are joining the middle classes annually and the world’s population is expected to
increase by two billion in the next 30 years.
